Club Fundraising

Wine Drive

For the second season in a row, Goodwood Saints Football Club has partnered with major sponsor The Highway and put together a list of discounted wines available to anyone affiliated with the club. A large portion of all money raised will go direct to the club – this is one of our major fundraisers for the year – and it would be appreciated if everyone can get on board.

All payments will be online, The Highway has put together a dedicated webpage to simplify orders, www.thehighway.com.au/gsfcorders

The wines can be collected from The Highway Bottleshop at your convenience.  Once the order has been placed, you will be contacted.

Lambrook ‘Spark’ Sparkling Pinot Noir - $100 /6pk (Save $50 off their Cellar Door price of $25 /btl)

The big hit with the girls on GSFC Ladies Day 2018!  Made by small batch producers Adam & Brooke Lampit, this Bubbles is a Rosé style sparkling with cherry, guava, strawberry and complex yeast flavours backed by a burst of fresh acidity.

Bird in Hand Sparkling Pinot Noir - $120 /6pk (Save $30 off their Cellar Door price of $25 /btl)

One of the most popular Bubbles in SA for many years now, this is a light and delicate sparkling Pinot Noir from the Adelaide Hills. The perfect pre-dinner aperitif or celebratory drink after a Grand Final!

Cleanskin Sauvignon Blanc - $100 /12pk

Always good to have a cheapie tucked away in the fridge for a quiet Tuesday, or a day ending in y.  This Adelaide Hills Savvy comes from one of the above wineries and drinks like a bottle in that $15-$20 range in value but works out to be $8.33 each.

Chain of Ponds ‘Novello’ Sem Sauv Blanc - $140 /12pk (Save $52 off their Cellar Door price of $16 /btl)

From the Adelaide Hills, Novello is a winemaking style aimed at producing youthful vibrant fresh wines.  Luscious and fresh fruit flavours dominate the palate with up front passionfruit and honeydew.  This vintage won Silver at the Adelaide Hills Wine Show.

Paulett Wines Polish Hill River Riesling - $200 /12pk (Save $88 off their Cellar Door price of $24 /btl)

Small family owned winery in the sub region of Polish Hill River of the Clare Valley.  The Riesling is their signature! A flinty and minerally Riesling packed with notes of lemon and lime with a clean crisp finish.  Bronze at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show.

Shaw + Smith Sauvignon Blanc - $260 /12pk (Save $76 off their Cellar Door price of $28 /btl)

One of the most popular Sauv Blanc’s going around and traditionally sells out at the Cellar Door each year.  This 2018 vintage has been called the best ever by winemaker Martin Shaw!  Tropical fruit with a touch of grassiness on the nose and a fresh, crisp finish.

Woodstock Grenache Rose - $170 /12pk (Save $58 off their Cellar Door price of $19 /btl)

A staple wine in the GSFC bar for many years now, The Woodstock Rose is always a hit on Friday nights!  A strawberry and cream entry followed by lovely crispness and balancing acidy.  The juicy, red berry after-taste keeps you coming for more.

Cleanskin Shiraz - $120 /12pk

Like with the Cleanskin savvy, we’re not technically allowed to advertise where this comes from, but we can hint strongly.  Last name Brand.  Region Coonawarra.  Drinks like a $15-$20 bottle but priced like a Banrock Station.  No brainer.

Mike Press Shiraz - $140 /12pk (Save $34 off their Cellar Door price of $14.50 /btl)

Mike spent years making wine with the great Max Schubert at Penfolds before starting his own winery back in 1998.  Known for producing ridiculously good quality wines for their price, this Shiraz was named in Tyson Stelzer’s Top 10 Australian wines under $20 – and we’ve got it here for $11.66! Loaded with intense fruit flavours, it is drinking well now but will age gracefully for years to come.

Random Shot Cabernet Sauvignon - $170 /12pk (Save $46 off their Cellar Door price of $18 /btl)

A wine brought to you by our A grade coach Adam Jeffries, who sells this Padthaway beauty in his time outside of football.  From Farmer’s Leap Wines, this is their value for money label and is one of the bigger sellers at the GSFC bar.  Blackcurrant and blueberry fruit aromas combine with fragrant thyme and hints of cedar oak, the pure Padthaway grapes capture the essence of the vintage, skilfully crafted but never contrived, simply massaged into the bottle.

Scarpantoni ‘School Block’ Red - $170 /12pk (Save $22 off their Cellar Door price of $16 /btl)

Anyone whose been on a wine tour through McLaren Vale will have been to Scarpantoni at some point. This is their highest seller.  The current blend is 60% Shiraz, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, which is typical of most previous releases. The Shiraz and Cabernet contribute toward much of ripe black-fruits, plums and chocolate that dominate the nose and palate and the wine is quite full in body from the Shiraz in particular, but soft, generous and always approachable, which where the Merlot component really comes into its own.

Kaesler ‘The Bogan’ Shiraz - $45 /btl (Save $10 off their Cellar Door price of $55 /btl)

Has always been a popular Barossa wine, but it exploded when Sam Newman gave some to ‘Tex’ Walker on The Footy Show.  Now it’s hard to get!  The two Shiraz vineyards from which this wine is sourced complement each other well – The Marananga block provides intense, old vine produce with particular “blue fruit” offerings. The Nuriootpa block provides more “black fruits.” These two blocks have built this wines strong reputation and style.

D'Arenberg ‘Dead Arm’ Shiraz - $60 /btl (Save $15 off their Cellar Door price of $75 /btl)

An Icon of Australian wine and comes from a unique block.  Dead Arm is a vine disease caused by the fungus Eutypa Lata that randomly affects vineyards all over the world. Often affected vines are severely pruned or replanted. One half, or an 'arm' of the vine slowly becomes reduced to dead wood. That side may be lifeless and brittle, but the grapes on the other side, while low yielding, display amazing intensity.  This wine has an elegance and refinement that few other wines from the region possess.  Beneath the layers of blueberry, pomegranate and Satsuma Plum is an intriguing core of earth and crushed rocks. If stored correctly, this wine should age for 15+ years.  96 points from James Halliday and a Double Gold at the China Wine & Spirits Awards.

Hewitson Private Cellar ‘Falkenberg Vineyard’ Shiraz - $65 /btl (Save $23 off their Cellar Door price of $88 /btl)

Situated in the heart of the Barossa Valley on the historic Seppeltsfield Road, Hewitson boasts some of the oldest vines in the world.  The Falkenberg is the flagship wine of the portfolio and is made in very small quantities.  “There’s an unmistakeable Barossa stamp – it’s richly flavoured with menthol, dark fruits, a velvety sensation to the ripe tannins- and it’s long. There’s detail here, yet it is still in the big, voluptuous category, and done well.” 95 points – James Halliday
